The Blue Shadow edition of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Cullinan channels space
The limited edition takes inspiration from the Karman Line but is actually out of this world
Rolls Royce has created yet another opulent limited edition. This time, the Black Badge Cullinan gets the red carpet treatment – literally.
The ultra-luxury custom car build uses a ‘edge of space’ motif and includes several allusions to the Karman Line. This is the enigmatic line that separates the Earth’s rim from the beginning of space. Because, well, of course.
A celestial-inspired roof lining includes 250,000 stitches that form an embroidered moon, complete with craters, and 1,183 white and blue fiber-optic lights that form the headliner’s starscape.
In addition, 75,000 perforations of two different widths were employed in the leather seating by Rolls. This is the first time the company has done this in a vehicle. This ‘earth from space’ impression, according to RR, took two weeks to design and was tried five times before designers were satisfied with the effect.
A blue and transparent glass panel surrounds the RR instruments, which include a unique dash clock.
The external paintwork on the Blue Shadow in’stardust blue’ is complemented by a space-shuttle-inspired satin-tinted grille surround and aero bumper insert sets. A 3D-printed, blue-tinted titanium Spirit of Ecstasy with the inscription ‘Blue Shadow’ watches over the events. Very lovely indeed.
However, it is not for everyone. There will only be 62 examples manufactured, one for every mile the Karman Line sits between the Earth’s surface and the galaxy’s limit. They will be available through the Rolls-Royce Private Office, where previous Collection Editions are available.
“With Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow, we venture to the fabled Kármán Line, where the constraints of Earth give way to the infinite freedom of outer space: a zone of incomparable beauty, mystery, and boundless possibility,” said RR CEO Torsten Müller-tvös. The Bespoke Collective of designers, engineers, and craftspeople captured this spirit in Blue Shadow by embarking on a voyage of discovery, once again pushing the frontiers of workmanship.
“Blue Shadow is a testament to our never-ending pursuit of perfection and a celebration of the spirit of exploration, created for the one-of-a-kind individuals who push boundaries and represent the pinnacle of human endeavor.”
This new look complements the £300,000 Cullinan’s 6.75-liter V12 engine, which is definitely capable of wandering the moon’s craters with ease. Rolls even offers a matching baggage set for your trip to the stars.
