Oscar Piastri Brushes Off Concerns About Upgrade Timing Relative to Lando Norris at McLaren
Oscar Piastri has addressed the issue of Lando Norris receiving McLaren’s substantial upgrades before him, emphasizing the significance of fair treatment.
Norris has been the recipient of these upgrades in both Austria and Singapore, owing to his seniority within the team and his higher position in the championship standings. Piastri has subsequently received the upgrades in the following race.
During these races, Piastri secured a fourth-place finish in Britain and achieved his inaugural podium in Japan, clinching third place.
Team Principal Andrea Stella has previously cited the “human factor” as a consideration in the upgrade allocation decision-making process. Piastri downplayed the impact of Norris receiving the new components first on both occasions, highlighting the significance of a new wing introduced at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Piastri keen for fairness
“Of course it would be great if we could both have it, but I completely understand why Lando gets them,” Piastri told media including RacingNews365 in Singapore before getting the parts at Suzuka.
“But in saying that, we try and keep it as fair as we can.
“At Zandvoort, I had the new rear-wing first so [it’s important] that it is not all one-sided.”
