Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver, has emphasized that while breaking historical records is a great achievement, his primary career focus is winning the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship and achieving success with his team.
Verstappen’s recent dominance in Formula 1 has been remarkable, with 38 wins in the last 60 races, highlighting his level of success. Despite setting several F1 records, including the most consecutive race victories, Verstappen places greater value on winning the world title.
In an interview on the Red Bull Mind Set Win podcast, Verstappen expressed his perspective, saying, “It’s good, but I’m not too focused on it. I just want to do the best I can every time I’m in the car, and if that means breaking a record, okay, great, but it’s more important what you are doing and achieving. At the end of the day, my goal this year is to win the championship.”
When asked about his favorite Grand Prix, Verstappen again emphasized his team’s success, particularly the back-to-back constructors’ titles achieved with Red Bull. He mentioned his first F1 race win as a special moment but highlighted the joy of being part of a competitive team.
Despite his current success, Verstappen acknowledges the transient nature of sports, stating, “I’m not afraid of losing. I hate losing, but that’s also part of the game. At the end of the day, you lose more than you win.” He stressed the importance of consistency in a season and the need to perform consistently, even on challenging weekends.
Verstappen attributed his recent championship runs to his consistency, highlighting the need to be on top of his game throughout the season and navigate tough situations effectively.
