After defeating the LA Rams 43-20 at home on Sunday, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are feeling good again. Two straight wins since their humiliating 42-10 setback to San Francisco a couple weeks ago. Prescott and Jerry Jones seem to have switched identities with division rival Philadelphia on deck.
Jerry Jones said he doesn’t want to “poke the bear” by discussing the Philly game.
When told, Dak Prescott paused, grinned, and replied.
Pour honey on me. Pour honey on me if I figҺt a bear. Looking forward to [that type of figҺt].
Prescott talked after Sunday’s win and said to pour honey on him if he fights a bear. Jones doesn’t want to poke the bear. That proverbial will be a green-clad eagle in Week 9. Last year, Prescott and Jalen Hurts missed one game as these teams split the season series.
It will be the first time the two quarterbacks have faced off in over two years. Last time was Week 4 of 2021, when Dak was definitely the better QB. Dallas won the series that season, but this time is different.
Never underestimate division rivalries
Philly has the best NFL record (7-1) and leads Dallas in the NFC East by two games despite a lackluster season. This club looks to have the correct formula and can win anytime. Jalen Hurts may not be an MVP candidate like last year, but his leadership and Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff have this squad poised for another deep postseason run.
After losing to Philly in Week 9, Dallas may only get a wildcard and play on the road. This is one occasion when Jones’ lead may be ideal for field business. The Cowboys are 5-2 but were humiliated the most less than a month ago. Now is not the time to brag.
The Eagles’ defense is still good, ranking sixth in the league with 25 sacks. Why Prescott would poke this beast before Philly is incomprehensible. Despite his poor big-game record, he has played well this year. Prescott must lead and back up his cocky attitude in this matchup.
This Sunday is crucial for the Cowboys’ NFC East prospects. Falling three games behind the Eagles in the division will essentially guarantee Philadelphia a second straight NFC East title. Dallas needs Dak to perform great to win. He must be insаne if he doesn’t think the Eagles are posting his words on their bulletin board.
