In the 2023 season, the Mercedes Formula 1 team has experienced a consistent surge of progress. Despite some initial setbacks, the team made a strong comeback. Lewis Hamilton, following his second-place finish in Mexico, has expressed his anticipation of thrilling battles in the upcoming year.
Hamilton recently inked a two-year contract extension with the Brackley-based team, aiming to compete for the world championship in 2024. Simultaneously, he expects that the Red Bull F1 team, led by Max Verstappen, will also undergo upgrades for the forthcoming season.
“We can build a great car. We haven’t for the past two years but we can build a great car. There are a lot of engineers who… nobody wants to copy anybody, they want to find their own way.”
“I think we are progressing but I heard Red Bull are progressing as well. We have to be really, really strategic and really clinical with moves. If we can get the car that can match them, we’re going to have some great battles next year.”
Furthermore, given the remarkable progress Mercedes has made this year, Hamilton is genuinely optimistic that his team will be in the mix, challenging Max Verstappen and the Red Bull team in 2024.
Lewis Hamilton is in touching distance of second place in the 2023 Driver’s Championship
Following his impressive performance at the Mexican Grand Prix, the 38-year-old driver has significantly narrowed the gap to Sergio Perez in the 2023 Drivers’ Championship.
As it stands, Hamilton has accumulated 220 points in the season, while Perez has reached only 240 in the formidable RB19. Moreover, considering Perez’s recent struggles, the Mercedes legend stands a strong chance of securing second place in the upcoming Grand Prix events.
The Brazilian Grand Prix is just around the corner, and it happens to be one of Lewis Hamilton’s favorite events on the F1 calendar. He possesses all the skills necessary to secure P2, but it won’t be an easy task, as Perez has a track record of delivering powerful performances when the situation demands.
