Selena discussed it in the podcast for The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards on Monday.
She clarified, saying that by putting her needs first, she was able to build a stronger sense of self-worth and learned to reject rudeness and foolishness of any kind.
In 2018, Selena and Justin called it quits for good, with Justin moving on with Hailey Bieber a few months later.
Selena felt unmoored after the breakup, despite the fact that she is now more confident in her position in the entertainment business.
“I was going through a really difficult breakup, obviously, and I was left wondering about my career and where I was going to go and what was going to happen,” she recalled.
Her lupus condition, which necessitated a kidney transplant in 2017, the year before the separation, further complicated matters.
“After that, my medical issues kind of got worse, but looking back, I have to say that it’s been really good for me,” she said.
“I had a lot of soul-work to do, so it was necessary for me to walk through those things,” Selena said. “I don’t claim to have life figured out, but I do know that I was discovering a lot about myself during that time.”
The Spring Breakers star isn’t hurrying into any new relationships in light of the upheaval in both her romantic and medical lives.
“It’s no longer taking over me to tolerate any kind of discomfort, usually disrespect or whatever, even just needless stuff,” she remarked.
