Lewis Hamilton aims to secure consecutive Brazilian GP victories for Mercedes this upcoming weekend.
Lewis Hamilton is determined not to conclude the 2023 season without a win and has set his sights on securing a race victory in one of the remaining three rounds. His first opportunity for this triumph arises at the Brazilian Grand Prix this Sunday.
As the seven-time world champion, Hamilton appears to be the most likely candidate to end Mercedes’ winless streak in the 2023 season. With only three races left in the year, Hamilton has notched up six podium finishes, while his teammate George Russell has managed just one, leaving them 69 points apart in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
Hamilton’s exceptional consistency throughout the season, even without a race-winning car, places him just 20 points behind Red Bull’s Sergio Perez in the battle for second place in the World Championship.
Regarding his prospects at the Brazilian GP, Hamilton remarked, “I expect Red Bull to perform exceptionally well because their car has been excellent. However, if that’s not the case, I’ll be fully prepared to challenge them and take the fight to the front.”
“If it can be anything like Austin and we can get the strategy better, then that would be incredible. I came away empty-handed last year, so I don’t plan on that this year.”
These recent remarks from Hamilton represent a significant shift from his earlier pessimistic perspective on Mercedes’ prospects at the beginning of the season. At the start of the campaign, when the checkered flag dropped at the season opener in Bahrain, Red Bull appeared to be in an invincible position, and it wasn’t until the Singapore Grand Prix that another team managed to break their undefeated streak at the beginning of the year.
After the Canadian Grand Prix in the summer, Hamilton claimed: “It’s… you know how it is, and you know what you’re faced with, and there’s nothing I can do about their amazing performance. It’s likely that they will win every race, moving forward, this year, unless the Astons and us put a lot more performance on the cars, or their car doesn’t finish.”
If there’s anyone capable of preventing Max Verstappen from increasing his already record-breaking 16 Grand Prix victories this season by adding three more, Hamilton stands out as the most promising contender.
In the United States Grand Prix, the 38-year-old finished just two seconds behind the reigning world champion before his subsequent disqualification. This was then followed by a legitimate second-place finish in Mexico City in the most recent race.
