Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has shared that he advised Sergio Perez to ‘move forward’ after his exit from the Mexican Grand Prix.
In a daring move, Perez attempted to overtake both Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc on the outside of the first corner, but unfortunately, he collided with the Ferrari, resulting in damage to his RB19.
The 33-year-old was subsequently forced to retire from the race, further extending his string of underwhelming performances for Red Bull.
With ongoing speculation surrounding Perez’s future and his battle to secure a race seat for the following year, Horner’s message to his driver was straightforward: turn the page.
”I was like ‘Checo, just turn the page,'” Horner told Sky Sports.
“‘It’s done. You can’t change it. Take the positives out of the weekend and apply them.'”
Perez’s perseverance
Horner emphasized one of Perez’s notable attributes: his resilience. This trait became evident when the Mexican driver experienced a resurgence of form during the sprint race in Brazil.
“He’s bought that here, one of his real strengths is when you think he’s down, he manages to pick himself up, brush himself down, and he has got a resilience,” Horner added.
Perez aims to secure maximum points in the remaining two Grand Prix events of the season, while Red Bull seeks to achieve their first-ever 1-2 finish in the drivers’ championship.
