Selena Gomez’s new, ever so slightly risqué clothing was revealed to fans in New York last night.
With her band The Scene, the small brunette was performing tracks from her album When the Sun Goes Down.
And the 19-year-old’s modern take on the belly dancer’s attire had a decidedly post-watershed vibe.
Of all, at 19, she is not the first young music sensation to sport a crop top—recall Britney at 16?
However, Selena’s simple yet endearing appearance makes the new style quite startling.
The singer, who is in a relationship with the equally pure 17-year-old Justin Bieber, looked stunning in the dazzling purple harem pants, silver hooded crop top, and sneakers.
Even so, it was a peculiar ensemble, with part dancer in a club and half youngster on the street.
Tonight in Clarkston, Michigan, she carried on her transformation from suburban to sensual, wearing a gold basque and a barely-there pelmet skirt with a dramatic train.
Gomez has positioned herself as a rockier, raunchier version of her previous self, therefore these are her most daring fashion choices.
The motif persisted with tiny gowns, the most of which were covered in glitter, which once more represented a drastic change from the traditional attire she has worn on previous tours.
The Disney actress recently admitted to Glamour magazine that she feels pressured to fit in, indicating that she clearly feels like it’s time to grow up.
The actress said, “Yeah, you have this pressure [to fit in] and you want people to like you,” in response to the magazine’s question about how difficult it is to be a young Hollywood celebrity. I make an effort to be the best version of myself and a kind person.
She draws inspiration from her colleagues and has forged close relationships with Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy, her latest co-stars in Monte Carlo.
They were the best girls I could have been partnered with, but I was scared and intimidated because they were older and had experience working on movies! They took me under their wing and were quite lovely.
“Who says you’re not star potential?” is a line from Selena’s platinum-selling song Who Says, which is taken from her most recent album. and the actress acknowledges that, having heard that more than once, she can connect to that.
She says, “I had someone tell me that today.”
