Red Bull has firmly established its dominance since the onset of 2022, boasting an impressive 36 victories, in stark contrast to Mercedes’ solitary win during the same period. Lewis Hamilton, fueled by the ambition of securing an unprecedented eighth Drivers’ Championship, faces the intriguing prospect of considering a seat at Red Bull to realize his championship aspirations.
The controversial circumstances surrounding the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix denied Hamilton the chance to clinch an eighth title. However, with Red Bull’s unassailable performance and Mercedes grappling with challenges, the likelihood of Hamilton contending for the championship with Mercedes appears increasingly uncertain.
The unrelenting force behind Red Bull’s dominance is exemplified by the incomparable Max Verstappen, who has triumphed in 17 out of the 20 completed races in 2023. Verstappen’s stellar performance has shattered records for consecutive wins, most wins in a season, and win percentage. While Red Bull stands as the epitome of success, Mercedes faces ongoing struggles, planning to introduce a third new concept in three seasons in 2024. The Silver Arrows continue to grapple with optimizing their package, presenting persistent challenges in driving.
Unless Mercedes successfully addresses these issues and engineers an exceptional car from scratch, Hamilton’s prospects of challenging for the title with the team appear bleak. Red Bull undeniably stands as the prime destination for any driver aspiring to secure a championship. However, the formidable task of overcoming Verstappen, as experienced by Sergio Perez, underscores the challenges that lie ahead. Hamilton’s optimal opportunity for securing another championship and challenging Verstappen may hinge on a potential switch to Red Bull, though the likelihood of such an offer remains highly improbable.
F1 legend Ross Brawn adds an additional layer of uncertainty, questioning whether the 103-time race winner would entertain the prospect of accepting such an offer, should it ever materialize.
“I don’t know. It would be wonderful to see wouldn’t it!” Brawn said on TalkSport, when asked if Hamilton would make the switch to Red Bull if given the chance.
