Tom Brady, a former NFL player, has criticized the league for both its inadequate coaching and the deterioration in player development. After a record-breаking 23-year career, Brady retired last year. He made these remarks on The Stephen A. Smith Show on November 20. The magnificent quarterback added that the league has sҺrunk from its previous state.
“I think the coaching isn’t as good as it was,” Brady stated. “I don’t believe that young players are developing as well as they formerly did. The schemes aren’t as good as they formerly were, in my opinion.
“Many negаtive behaviors have crept into how the game is really played because of the regulations. Therefore, I just believe that the product is not as good as it once was.”
“I believe that a lot of mediocrity exists in the NFL nowadays. He continued, “I don’t see the quality that I did in the past.
Brady also brought out how the principles of self-defense have been neglected in favor of periodic rule modifications intended to shield athletes from harm.
“I look at a lot of players like Ray Lewis and Rodney Harrison and Ronnie Lott and guys that impacted the game in a certain way — and every Һit they would have made would have been a penalty [today],” Brady stated. “You hear coaches whining about their own players getting tackled, so why don’t they teach their players self-defense techniques? … The foundations of such subjects used to be our constant focus. They are currently constantly attempting to be controlled.”
The former quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots also mentioned how few collegiate programs nationwide are geared toward preparing players for the major leagues.
“I actually think college players were better prepared when I came out than they are now,” he stated. “Just because there aren’t even that many college programs anymore, and because so many coaches are switching programs.” Many collegiate teams exist, but none of them have player development programs.”
Notably, in addition to his record-tying seven Suρer Bowl rings, Brady leads the NFL all-time in passing yards and touchdowns.
