The Dallas Cowboys are “definitely interested” in signing free agent linebacker Shaquille Leonard, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
McCarthy told The Star on Sunday, “I don’t have anything to report on Shaq,” first trying to calm the frenzy, then adding, “but yes, definitely, there’s interest.”
Last Tuesday, CowboysSI.com reported that Dallas expected Leonard to pass waivers after his release from the Indianapolis Colts. Once he did, Dallas would consider a bid, with rumors that Leonard has scheduled a trip to Frisco this week.
Later in the week, a source told CowboysSI.com that the “recruiting process” was underway, confirming that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had attempted to “make contact” with Leonard, 28, a three-time All-Pro who is now a run-stopping helper and locker room leader.
Leonard watched his former teammates beаt the Buccaneers at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday from a suite in Indianapolis.
Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, and Buffalo Bills are additional playoff-contending teams who may pursue Leonard. It’s guesswork.
Cowboys’ interest? It was true until Tuesday. McCarthy’s confirmation that he’s on the team’s radar makes it an open sеcrеt as bidding begins.
