Former NFL quarterback Alex Smith reacted strongly to Tom Brady’s comments about “a lot of mediocrity” in the sport. Brady addressed the league’s coaching and player toughness on The Stephen A. Smith Show last week, making headlines.
Smith called Brady’s statements hypocritical on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown. The seven-time Suρer Bowl champion continued to play in 2023 after winning his last ring two years earlier.
I love Tom and he’s the GOAT. He’s been retired for a short time “Smith remarked. “He played. He just won a Suρer Bowl currently. Is he dismissing that?”
Smith then said that Brady’s views are biased by his career opponents. Brady won six rings with Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots from 2000 until 2020, when he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He went 90-22 against AFC East teams with the Patriots. Brady finished 12-6 versus the NFC South in three seasons in Tampa Bay.
“He played in the most uncompetitive division, I think, in NFL history,” he remarked. “You leave training camp in the biggest cupcake category. You qualified for the playoffs immediately. Talk about mediocre.”
Brady feels the product “is less than what it’s been,” but Smith likes it.
“League parity has increased. League quarterback play is at an all-time high. The best athletes play the position. We didn’t have this 30-40 years ago. He also mentions lower оffensive figures. I think D-linemen are in their prime “Smith stated.
Smith isn’t the only outspoken critic. Hall of Fаme running back Barry Sanders commented on Robert Griffin III’s podcast.
I still see an excellent product. Great teams remain “Sanders stated.
