Max Verstappen has been informed by Fernando Alonso that he will defeat the three-time world champion in a DTM race.
Having finished the season with eight podiums and fourth in the drivers’ championship, the 42-year-old Spaniard rated the experience as the finest of his career.
With the Aston Martin team, Alonso has found newfound motivation. If Verstappen hadn’t been so dominant in 2023, he may have even increased his record of 32 race wins.
During the live Viaplay broadcast after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Alonso was “interviewed” by the Dutchman.
Alonso is going after Verstappen.
Verstappen seemed more lighthearted about the situation than Alonso, who last won a world championship in 2006. Alonso seemed to want to take the interview seriously and talk about his race.
When the topic of the two’s plans for the winter vacation came up, Verstappen said, “I’m testing in GT3, if you want? Perhaps we might meet in the center of Portimao?” “Me in Oregon, with the DTM, maybe I can beat you there,” Alonso said.
The veteran expressed his confidence in his team’s ability to produce a vehicle that can defeat Verstappen in Formula One next year.
