Formula One champion Max Verstappen, determined in his quest for a third consecutive world title, expressed his openness to set aside on-track rivalry and collaborate with a fellow driver to create an ideal team for the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
Verstappen, representing Red Bull, showcased his unstoppable form, and during his appearance at Honda Thanks Day, he shared his aspirations, focusing notably on the renowned endurance race.
He said: “What I do want to race is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I have already been there, when my father raced in Le Mans. The atmosphere is incredible in Resistencia.
“There are so many people, driving at night, at dawn… I think it’s really cool.”
Typically, endurance test teams consist of two or three drivers. In light of this, 26-year-old Verstappen disclosed his vision for the perfect Le Mans dream team and identified his ideal partner for the collaboration.
He said: “I’ve been talking to Fernando (Alonso) about it. He said he’d just want to do it with me again. So I told him it would be great.
“The only thing is, for Le Mans, there’s no minimum weight for the driver. I’m a Quite a heavy competitor, so I would have to find light teammates to compensate.
“But Fernando is quite light, so that would be very good for us. But we would need to find another one, so I have to take a look.”
Alonso is no stranger to Le Mans victory, having clinched the title twice in 2018 and 2019 as part of the winning Toyota team.
