Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman developed a close bond while playing together with the New England Patriots.
The former wide receiver shared a number of anecdotes about his time spent living in Massachusetts during his appearance on the Fubo Sports podcast “No Chill.” One amusing tale he shared was about going to a Red Sox game with Rob Gronkowski.
When Gronkowski was “just starting to become Gronk,” the two went to Red Sox games together early in their careers. As soon as the crowd saw the tight end get into the car, they ran over.
“They swarmed the car and they were shaking the car for Gronk,” Edelman stated. “Garnk exits the sunroof. Everyone is going insane. People are hurling clothes and bras.”
“Gronk’s an absolute rockstar.”
Gronkowski, who is well-known for his wild antics, such as silly dance routines and Super Bowl parade mishaps, did not hesitate to step into the spotlight.
The two have stayed friends even after they retired, and in March, following Tom Brady’s retirement announcement, they were spotted hanging out on the beach together.
Josiah Johnson questioned Edelman about how the beach football get-together went, inquiring as to if they all had a group chat.
Edelman scoffed at the notion of Brady in a group chat at that point.
Edelman remarked, “One of his seventeen assistants hit us all up.” Although he handles everything, it’s not quite like that. I believe that when I spoke with assistant number 42 or something, we all went outside to celebrate his accomplishments.”
Edelman also talked about his friendship with a Celtics great in addition to his relationship with his former colleagues.
Edelman and Paul Pierce are good friends, and the two were present when the receiver was taken into custody in January 2020. Edelman attributes the event to “too much tequila.”
After the Patriots were eliminated early, he and Pierce were watching football together in Beverly Hills when a heist nearby prompted him and the other patrons to stay inside. During that time, Edelman and Pierce drank.
Once they were allowed to go, Edelman tried to slide across the car’s bonnet as a car was leaving the parking garage where the two were strolling.
As a foolish person, Edelman admitted, “I did like a little hood-slide on it, and didn’t really get a good hood-slide.” I was wearing jeans, and there was a slight amount of precipitation in the atmosphere. I became stuck as a result. I believe that would have worked well if I had really hood-slid. But the man exited the vehicle and waved a police officer down.
As a result, Edelman was placed under arrest for minor mischief.
Nevertheless, he managed to chuckle on the podcast about the entire experience.
Throughout his time with the Patriots, Edelman made a lot of memories, and it’s evident that the players in Boston had a strong camaraderie in addition to their mutual love of the game.
Regarding the other Boston sports teams, Edelman remarked, “We all have a really good relationship.” “The boys never truly had a rivalry, in my opinion. In a way, it resembled a fraternity.”
