Lando Norris had an exceptional 2023 season that captured the attention of teams across the Formula 1 paddock.
Considered by Express Sport readers as the standout performer of the year, Norris consistently graced the podium, securing seven top-three finishes, six of which were second places. Despite McLaren starting the season with the slowest car, Norris’s performances propelled them to beat Aston Martin for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Personally, Norris finished sixth in the Drivers’ Championship, just one point behind both Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso.
Express Sport conducted a survey among 7,471 readers, with 46% believing Norris had the strongest season compared to other notable drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez, and Carlos Sainz. Alonso garnered 24% of the votes, securing the second-highest share.
Interestingly, both Hamilton and Perez settled for joint-third place in the poll, each receiving nine percent of the votes. Despite claiming five pole positions, only eight percent of readers felt that Leclerc had the strongest season, while Sainz received four percent, despite being the only non-Red Bull driver to win a Grand Prix.
These survey results affirm the interest in Norris from Red Bull and Ferrari. Red Bull sees him as a long-term successor to Sergio Perez, but contract timelines may pose challenges. Ferrari’s reported interest suggests they view Norris as a potential replacement for Sainz if he departs in 2025.
