It seems like a long time ago that the Dallas Cowboys, who beаt the visiting Eagles 33-13 on Sunday night, were worried about their kickers during the summer.
The Cowboys were desperate to find a new kicker after letting go of Brett Maher after a terrible playoff showing. Here comes Brandon Aubrey, a famous former Notre Dаme soccer player who now plays for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL. The Cowboys gave Aubrey his first chance to play in the NFL this summer, and boy, has that choice paid off big time.
“Going back three years and working as a software engineer and just putting in the work in my spare time,” Aubrey said as he thought about making it to the NFL. “These are my wildest dreams come true, and I’m just trying to keep going.”
Not only has the 28-year-old been great for a rookie, he may have been the best kicker in the whole league. Before the game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, Aubrey had made all 26 field goals and all 39 extra points. Aubrey had already broken the record for the most field goals made in the first few games of a career.
Aubrey had what was probably his best game yet on Sunday, adding to his already great season. He made all four field goals and three extra points that night, and they were all good. The field goals were made from 45, 50, 59, and 60 yards out. Cowboys PR says Aubrey is the first kicker in NFL history to make two field goals of 59 yards or more in the same game.
QB Dak Prescott called his newbie friend “Butter,” which is the nickname the quarterback has given to the kid from McKinney because he’s so smooth.
Aubrey has now made seven field goals of at least 50 yards, which is the most by a rookie in a single season for the team.
Aubrey, who was born and raised near Dallas, has been the Cowboys’ best “diamond in the rough.” It makes sense that Aubrey would have his best game yet on the night that will define the Cowboys’ season so far.
Is he pulling a surprise?
Aubrey was honest and said, “Not really.” “I’m just focusing on one kιck at a time, and I’m sure I can do all of them.” At this point, I just expect myself to go out there and make it.
