Nathan Rourke is the new quarterback for the New England Patriots.
On Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars grabbed the Canadian quarterback off waivers, according to reports. Trevor Lawrence, the team’s quarterback, was released for the third time this season while playing with an ankle injury he had sustained the week before in a 23-7 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
After training camp, Rourke was initially cut by Jacksonville, and he played most of his rookie season on the practice squad. He ran 14 times for 39 yards and one score in the preseason while completing 65.7% of his throws for 348 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
In2022, the 25-year-old quarterback for the B.C. Lions completed 3,349 yards of passing with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In ten regular-season games, he also rushed for 304 yards and seven touchdowns, winning the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian honor.
With a 3-11 record, the Patriots are presently fourth in the AFC East and are not eligible to play in the playoffs. According to the NFL’s waiver policy, Rourke will be available for the team’s last three regular season games. Sources claim that Rourke will leave for New England on Monday evening. The total amount he will make in 2023 will be $398,996 USD.
Prior to being demoted to a backup position, former first-round draft selection Mac Jones played 11 games for the club and completed his passing stats with 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. During his three starts, Bailey Zappe has passed for 719 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions. Zappe has a 1-2 record, while Jones has a 2-9 record.
Wouldn’t surprise me, one insider remarked in response to the question of whether Rourke may play before the 2023 season ends. This season, every other man they have played has fallen short of expectations.
Before being selected in the second round of the 2020 CFL Draft, the Victoria, British Columbia native completed three seasons at Ohio University with a quarterback rating of 7,457 yards, 60 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. In addition, he gained 2,634 yards and two touchdowns on 425 carries of the ball.
