With three games left in a disappointing season, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is considering how to split ways with Bill Belichick, according to a new report, while the iconic coach wants to stay in Foxboro.
The New England Patriots have various possibilities for how to cap out Bill Belichick’s remarkable tenure in Foxboro.
Owner Robert Kraft has the option to terminate him outright. He and her might agree to a mutual “parting of the ways.” He may work out a deal for the future Hall of Fame coach, recouping assets in the process.
The ball is definitely in Kraft’s court, although a hot potato given Belichick’s status. But what if the coach decides to stay?
According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, Belichick would want to continue as Patriots coach into 2024 and beyond.
“I’m told Belichick doesn’t want to leave New England,” Volin said. “However, he has no control over his fate.” Kraft is correct.”
Belichick has previously been connected to the Los Angeles Chargers, who sacked their head coach and general manager last week. And there are persistent ties to the Dallas Cowboys, despite the fact that they are about to make their third straight playoff appearance under Mike McCarthy.
The 71-year-old Belichick has regularly avoided inquiries regarding his employment, telling reporters last week to “Ask Mr. Kraft.”
“Nothing’s changed,” Belichick remarked this week on his Monday morning radio broadcast. “We’ve got Denver this week, and we’ll do all we can to get the team ready to play well against Denver.”
Since Tom Brady’s departure following the 2019 season, the Patriots are just 28-37 and have yet to win a playoff game. However, during their remarkable 20-year dynasty, Belichick led them to a record six Super Bowls.
