Nico Hulkenberg Lauds Gasly’s Swift Transition to Alpine in Bold Move
Haas standout Nico Hulkenberg has expressed his admiration for Alpine counterpart Pierre Gasly, emphasizing that many overlook the talent of the French driver. Gasly’s decision to switch from AlphaTauri to Alpine has earned Hulkenberg’s praise, who views it as a bold yet correct move showcasing Gasly’s abilities with the French team.
Despite facing challenges during the season with Alpine, Hulkenberg ranks Gasly among his top three drivers from the previous season, placing him behind world champion Max Verstappen and veteran Fernando Alonso. In Hulkenberg’s evaluation, this positions Gasly above renowned names like Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton, underscoring his high regard for Gasly’s performance.
Speaking about Gasly’s team change, Hulkenberg remarked, “With Pierre [Gasly], you underestimate the fact that he has had a team change and is at a very good level straight away.” Drawing from his experience, Hulkenberg highlighted the usual time it takes for drivers to synchronize with a new car and team, making Gasly’s rapid adaptation commendable.
When addressing whether observers comprehend the challenges of changing teams, Hulkenberg noted, “You see everything from the outside, but you can’t judge it very well from the outside because it’s a feeling.”
He emphasized that processes such as adjusting driving styles require time, especially with limited testing and driving opportunities during a race weekend. Hulkenberg concluded by acknowledging Gasly’s swift and commendable transition to Alpine.
