Ladies and gents and lovers of the open waters, before us, lies a Princess R35. Take a moment to view the images in the gallery, check out the video below, and once you’re done, picture yourself aboard this 35-foot (10.6 m) beauty, cruising around the local seas and coastlines, the wind flowing through your hair and the sun beating down on your exposed skin.
Why do all this? My search for the perfect boat, and one that I can get my hands on in this lifetime, has led me here, face to face, with a 2022 version selling for no more than $648,500 (€591,800 at current exchange rates) out of Fort Lauderdale. With a little of sweet talking, I’m sure you can knock the price down a touch.
As for what we can get our hands on, let me first start off with what an R35 is and what you can do with it. For that, let’s take a look at the brains and hands behind the magic, none other than Princess, the one and the same that’s been manufacturing boats since 1965.
Now, all those years of experience are rolled up into the R35, which is also considered Princess’ fastest boat to date, able to achieve a top speed of up to 50 knots (57 mph). This is made possible not only by the presence of two Volvo Penta V8 engines with 430 hp each but also because of how the R35 is built.
Overall, fiberglass is kind for this boat, making it light and rather efficient. But, before you even start those engines, you and your guests are likely to be drawn to this vessel based on nothing more than appearances, and here is where there’s enough to speak about, all owing to the ageless composite construction block.
Upon seeing the R35 for the first time, its bulbous bow and tapered and flat rear attracted my eyes the most, and as I continued to follow those sensuous curves, I noticed those rear scoops that protrude from the hull, a feature that not many day boats, tenders, and even yachts include. Nothing but Bugatti was running through my head at that point. I wonder if these scoops help this thing turn on a dime at high speeds.Personally, I feel it gives the R35 a very distinctive and stand-apart look, one that’s sure to have the local marine asking around about who owns it; that could be you. If you like the attention, you’ll get it, and it’s the R35’s sensuous and sleek exterior you can thank for that, or is it the deck and its features?
Well, starting at the rear of the R35, we can spot a beautifully integrated deck suitable for access to the surrounding waters, and with a step or two up, you’ll find yourself in the center of a beam-to-beam sunbed, and if we continue to step forward, you’ll be able to plop down on a U-shaped lounge that, again, spans the entire width of this floating haven.
From here, the rest of the R35 unveils a three-person cockpit with some of the industry’s top gear, while along the sides of the console, guests can access the bow of the ship. Why not dive into the bay from here or simply relax around?
Back at the console, to the left of the steering wheel, we can access the interior living space hidden in that bulbous bow. As we do, we find ourselves in the center of yet another lounge with a fridge, TV, and other features too. But, the truly great thing here is the fact that the table can be lowered and the lounge changed into a bedroom.Picture yourself waking up here after you and your significant other watched the stars above from some sеcrеt bay someplace. Freshen up in the bathroom, get a cup of coffee, take a sandwich from the fridge, maybe some fruits, and head to the terrace above. By removing the table on the main deck, you may make a small room for some morning Yoga or pop into tree position on the tip of the bow.
After you’ve let out that deep breath, stretched the bones, and all that, you’re joined by your mate, only to begin another day of exploring. Actually, today is going to be all about speed, and the R35 can undoubtedly fulfill that demand, too. Come to think of it, the only thing I wouldn’t do with this boat is take it fishing. After all, you wouldn’t want this luscious piece of engineering and lifestyle to reek of fish.
