Mercedes has unveiled their heavily-revised car, the W15, which marks a significant departure from their previous design approach. Described as a “complete relaunch,” the team hopes that these changes will enable them to challenge Red Bull and reclaim their competitive edge in Formula 1 for the 2024 season.
In addition to the revamped car concept, Mercedes has also introduced a new livery for the W15. The car features the return of Mercedes’ traditional silver color on the nose, along with the green of their title sponsor, Petronas. These colors complement the black accents that have been a prominent feature of Mercedes’ recent liveries.
The W15 holds particular significance as it will be the final car driven by Lewis Hamilton during his tenure with Mercedes. Hamilton shocked the F1 world with his decision to leave Mercedes and join Ferrari starting from the 2025 season, exercising an exit clause in his contract.
Speaking at the launch event from Silverstone, team principal Toto Wolff expressed the team’s determination to deliver a competitive car for Hamilton’s farewell season. Despite a challenging 2023 season where Mercedes failed to secure a race win for the first time in 11 years, Wolff remains optimistic about their prospects for 2024.
Hamilton himself appeared alongside Wolff and teammate George Russell at the unveiling event, expressing his excitement about the new car and the upcoming season. As Mercedes aims to bid farewell to Hamilton with a competitive car, all eyes will be on the W15 as it hits the track for pre-season testing ahead of the 2024 campaign.
