When Selena Gomez unexpectedly showed up to Coldplay’s Sunday night performance, she offered the crowd an additional gift.
The enduringly successful British rock group was playing at Pasadena, California’s Rose Bowl Stadium when the actress and singer, 31, abruptly exited the stage.
After frontman Chris Martin, 46, launched into a performance of the band’s 2021 hit Let Somebody Go, which had originally featured additional vocals from the Only Murders In The Building star, Selena, who almost had a run-in with her on-off rival Hailey Bieber, was there to support him.
He began with what seemed to be a solo rendition of the original vocal duet, then asked two young admirers in the crowd to join him at an electronic piano.
However, as he began to play and sing, Selena stunned the two young fans on stage and the crowd erupted in shouts as she walked off in the middle of the song. Selena was seen giving a brief embrace to the fan outside the piano in a video that she uploaded to her Instagram Stories and in a clip that Coldplay shared on their account. After that, she and the other fan were seen high-fiving and clearly overwhelmed by the surprise visit.
Selena looked put together and fashionable in a maxi skirt and black long sleeve dress.
Her long raven hair was separated in the center and arranged in thick waves that spilled over her back and shoulders.
She also donned glittering black boots, and her well made-up face was framed by an especially thick pair of silver hoops earrings.
The lights had been turned down for the private time, making Selena’s all-black ensemble and dark hair almost vanish in the low light. It looked that the rest of the band had left, leaving Chris Martin alone on a circular stage.
What began as a single performance evolved into a duet, which eventually became a three when a new person emerged from the shadows.
The artist H.E.R. emerged from the stage wearing an eye-catching purple sweatsuit adorned with shimmering sequins as the lights started to come up on the stage.
She covered Selena and Chris with more lovely vocal harmonies before stealing the show with an emotional guitar solo. The crowd was completely enthralled with Selena’s video of the all-star concert, and fans gathered around the stage quickly pulled out their phones to record the occasion for future reference.
“Thank you @coldplay @hermusicofficial for an incredible evening,” Selena captioned a follow-up Insta Stories picture on Instagram.
In a mirror selfie, she lifted one leg suggestively to display her fishnet stockings and flaunted her sleek black dress.
The song, on which Selena does not have writing credit, was started in 2019 and completed in 2021.
It was originally slated to be on Coldplay’s Everyday Life album in 2019, but it was eventually added to their 2021 album Music of the Spheres.
In addition, Chris gave credit to his daughter Apple Martin for providing him with a fascinating chord that turned into a significant portion of the song, even if it didn’t seem like a significant enough contribution to have her recognized with the other nine acknowledged composers.
Selena first performed live with Coldplay on October 18, 2021, on the now-defunct Late Late Show With James Corden. That was almost two years ago.
However, because she wasn’t always available, Coldplay also played the song alone. Chris Martin did so during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2022.
