Many people were astonished to learn about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce, particularly when other celebrities’ names were mentioned in relation to the topic of “why the heck did this happen?”
Actress Marion Cotillard became the subject of conjecture when whispers began to circulate suggesting that she and co-star Brad Pitt had an affair that ultimately caused their breakup. Rather of allowing the public to continue with their endless justifications, she chose to take it on directly.
In an extensive Instagram post, Cotillard denied any role in Jolie-Pitt’s decision to separate and reaffirmed her love for Guillaume Canet, the father of her soon-to-be twins (yep, she also revealed her second pregnancy while debunking rumors of an affair).
“This will be my one and only response to the chaotic news that broke a day ago and caught me off guard. I don’t usually comment on or take things like this seriously, but because this is getting out of hand and hurting the people I care about, I feel compelled to speak out,” she said.
“First of all, I met the love of my life a long time ago; he is the father of our son and the child we are expecting. He is the one person I need, my closest friend, and my love. Second, thank you to everyone who has expressed how heartbroken they are; I am doing really well. This is not a disturbing discussion. I also really hope you heal quickly, to all the media and the others who are quick to criticize. Ultimately, I really hope that Brad and Angelina—two people I hold in the highest regard—find serenity at this very turbulent time. With my whole affection Marion”
People began to wonder whether Pitt had cheated on his Allied co-star when Page Six revealed that Angelina had hired a private investigator to spy on him on production, leading her to fear he had.
“She hired a private eye because she felt that he was playing around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was,” a “well-placed” insider told the newspaper. That was the last straw, too.” These reports are untrue, a source said E! News at the time.
Other theories for Hollywood’s dramatic breakup were also floated, such as their divergent perspectives on the future and purportedly different parenting philosophies for their six kids—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and the twins Knox and Viviene. Whatever the cause, both celebrities are determined to spend as much time as possible with their kids throughout this process.
“Angelina will always prioritize the needs of her family over all else,” Geyer Kosinski, her manager, said to E! News yesterday. “She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Pitt, meanwhile, issued a statement on the split, stating, “Although I am very upset by this, the welfare of our children comes first right now. I respectfully request that the media provide them the space they need at this trying time.”
