Bernie Collins Issues Warning to Lewis Hamilton Ahead of Ferrari Move
In a recent episode of The Fast and the Curious Podcast, Sky Sports F1 pundit Bernie Collins delivered a stark warning to Lewis Hamilton as the seven-time world champion prepares to make the switch to Ferrari next year.
Hamilton’s move to the Scuderia was confirmed in February, with the British driver set to replace Carlos Sainz and partner with Charles Leclerc for the 2025 season. However, Collins cautioned Hamilton that his transition to Ferrari wouldn’t be without its challenges.
Despite Sainz’s recent victory at the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton has struggled in the opening races of the season, failing to finish in the top six for the first time in his F1 career. His disappointing performances, coupled with mechanical issues, have left him languishing in 10th place in the championship standings with just eight points.
Collins noted that Hamilton has appeared somewhat “distant” from his Mercedes team, which has undergone changes and is no longer bending over backwards to accommodate his requests. With Mercedes trailing behind Red Bull and Ferrari by 67 points, Hamilton’s move to Ferrari presents a significant shift in team dynamics and technical setup.
The former Aston Martin strategist emphasized the magnitude of the challenge awaiting Hamilton at Ferrari, highlighting the need for him to adapt to a new power unit and team environment. Hamilton, who has never driven a Ferrari-powered car, will face a steep learning curve as he navigates the differences in engine modes and team ethos.
Despite Hamilton’s illustrious career boasting 103 wins and seven titles, his recent lack of victories raises questions about his transition to Ferrari. With his last win dating back to the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton faces the possibility of joining Ferrari without a victory in three consecutive seasons.
Former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has already warned Hamilton of the difficulties he may encounter, while Alpine’s Esteban Ocon considers Leclerc to be one of the most naturally talented drivers on the grid, alongside Max Verstappen.
As Hamilton prepares for the next chapter of his career at Ferrari, the challenges ahead underscore the uncertainties surrounding his transition and the competitive landscape of Formula 1.
