Christian Danner Criticizes Ferrari’s Decision as Carlos Sainz Shines in F1 2024 Season
Former Formula 1 driver Christian Danner has voiced criticism over Ferrari’s decision to sideline Carlos Sainz in favor of Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season, as Sainz’s impressive performances in the 2024 season continue to turn heads.
Despite Ferrari’s high-profile signing of Hamilton, set to join the team in 2025, Sainz’s recent podium finish in Bahrain and dominant victory in the Australian Grand Prix have raised questions about the team’s choice.
Danner expressed his views, stating, “At the moment, Carlos Sainz is messing everything up at Ferrari. Firstly, you’ve signed the wrong driver for next year. Hamilton is lagging behind, I’m much better. Secondly, if you want Hamilton, you’ve kept the wrong one because I’m faster.”
Highlighting Sainz’s prowess over his teammate Charles Leclerc, Danner emphasized the Spaniard’s commitment and aggressive driving style, suggesting that Ferrari may have acted prematurely in securing Hamilton’s signature.
While Hamilton faces his own challenges within the Mercedes team, Danner dismissed speculations of his decline, contrasting his situation with that of Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull.
Amidst uncertainties regarding his future, Sainz has been linked with potential moves to Mercedes, Red Bull, and Sauber (to be rebranded as Audi from 2026), further fueling the speculation surrounding the talented driver’s next career move.
