His swift pass of the Empire State Building was intended to commemorate Mercedes’ collaboration with WhatsApp, following their merger with the messaging behemoths to create a brand-new race-car emoji.
On Monday night, Mercedes and WhatsApp also turned the famous structure green. to commemorate the release of the new emoji.
Hamilton wants to do better this weekend than he did at the Chinese Grand Prix last month, where he came in eighth.
The British driver, who is now languishing in ninth place in the overall F1 standings after three ninth and one seventh-place finishes, has had a challenging opening three months of the season.
His recent collapse reached a new low when he was unable to qualify for the Australian Grand Prix in March.
The 39-year-old is nevertheless excited about the possibility of three races taking place in the United States this year, starting with the Miami main event on Sunday and continuing with races in Texas and Las Vegas.
“To be in Miami and in the United States is a dream for us,” he remarked.
