Selena Gomez posted some body positivity to her Instagram on Monday.
The actress, 31, shared a throwback shot in a small zebra bikini, followed by a more recent bathing suit photo in which she showed off a larger body in high-waisted bikini bottoms and a white tube top.
‘Today, I realized I would never look like this again…’ Selena, who previously admitted to ‘tear my eyes out’ over body-shaming comments, wrote about the first shot, which was taken in Miami, Florida, in 2013.
‘I’m not perfect, but I’m pleased to be who I am… sometimes I forget it’s okay to be myself,’ she commented on the next shot, which was taken in Mexico in 2023.
Selena has previously shared body-positive statements. Last February, she also confronted body shamers, revealing that her lupus medication is to blame for her increased weight.
Gomez had gone make-up-free earlier in the day for a pamper session at the skincare salon Face Place in West Hollywood, wearing grey cashmere-style sweats and beige fuzzy slides.
The pop star had her hands full when she arrived at the 52-year-old institution, which provides medical cosmetic treatments such as Botox, Radiofrequency Microneedling, Kybella, and Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening.
Last February, Gomez declared that she will ‘never be a model’ in response to online bullies who had criticized on her body.
The Only Murders In The Building actress revealed that she will ‘carry a lot of water weight’ as a result of many drugs she takes and encouraged followers to practice self-love even when they feel ashamed.
The Lose You to Love Me singer, who has previously spoken out about her autoimmune disease diagnosis and mental health struggle, added: ‘When I’m off of it, I tend to lose weight.’
While continuing to promote body acceptance, the former Disney star stated that the little side effect pales in comparison to her overall health: ‘My drugs are crucial, and I believe they are what helps me.’
In response to the critics, she encouraged them to ‘go away, because, honestly, I don’t believe in condemning people for [their] body or anything else.’
‘So, certainly, not a model,’ she remarked, adding, ‘Never will be.’
She said, ‘And I think they’re amazing – mind you – but I’m definitely not that.’
The hitmaker then urged her fans to exercise self-love and acceptance.
‘I just wanted to express and encourage everyone out there who feels shame for what they’re going through and no one knows the full story,’ she said.
‘I just want people to know that you are gorgeous and great.’
The Wizards of Waverly Place star emphasized the significance of her health over her appearance.
‘And, yes, we have days when we feel like s***, but I’d rather be healthy and take care of myself,’ she explained.
The month before, the Rare Beauty creator responded to more body shaming comments after attending the 2023 Golden Globes.
Selena questioned her nine-year-old half-sister Gracie on Instagram Live, ‘I’m a little bit large right now, since I enjoyed myself during the holidays, huh?’
Gracie seemed to agree before Selena said, ‘But we don’t care.’
In 2022, she spoke out body shamers in a TikTok Stories video.
‘To be honest, I don’t care about my weight because people often complain about it. “You’re too small, too big, that doesn’t fit, Meh meh meh meh.”
