Selena Gomez opened up about her vacation from social media, revealing that it was the’most rewarding present’ she has given herself.
The 31-year-old Love On singer, who recently put on a glowing display while arriving to the Only Murders In The Building stage, discussed the matter at the Time 100 Summit in New York City on Wednesday.
The singer, who had let her staff manage her account for about four years, has taken vacations from the app, including a brief hiatus earlier this year in January.
‘Well, I took four years off from Instagram and had my team post for me during that time,’ she revealed to Time. “I felt like it was the most rewarding gift I gave myself.”
Gomez continued, ‘I believe people, especially young kids, it’s – you’re sitting there so focused on what looks lovely when everything that’s supposed to be wonderful to you isn’t from here.’ The actress explained that during her social media hiatus, she was’more present’ and ‘happier.’
‘I would actually get real phone calls from people telling me about their stories, and I could actually hear them instead of saying, “Oh, I already know what you did today.” It’s like, more human.
Now that she’s back on her own Instagram account, the actress explained why it might be ‘frustrating’ at times.
‘I just find it aggravating, and then I get a bit mouthy, and I want to defend the people I care about,’ Selena revealed during the panel discussion.
Regarding social media, the Single Soon hitmaker stated that ‘it’s necessary to take pauses. So, I try…I don’t pay too much attention. I’ll just do stuff here and there.
Gomez revealed in January that she would be taking a sabbatical from Instagram.
At the moment, she posted a video of her boyfriend Benny Blanco playing with two younger youngsters. She wrote at the bottom, ‘I’m off social for a bit. I’m concentrating on what actually counts.
During the event, Selena approached Swift and spoke with her briefly, prompting social media users to speculate about the discussion.
Rumors circulated that Jenner and Chalamet had rejected taking a photo with Selena, which she denied in the comments section of an E! News piece. ‘Noooooo, I told Taylor about two of my buddies who had hooked up. That’s not anyone’s business.
However, one day after announcing that she would be taking a social media hiatus, she returned to Instagram to promote a cookery video featuring Gordon Ramsey.
Last October, the actress announced that she would be taking another vacation due to the Israel-Palestine issue.
She posted on her Instagram stories at the time, ‘I’ve been taking a sabbatical from social media because my heart bleeds to watch all of the misery, hate, violence, and terror that’s going on in the world.’
‘It is horrifying to see people tortured and killed, as well as any act of hatred directed at any particular community. We must safeguard all people, particularly children, and put an end to violence for good.
She went on to say, ‘I’m sorry if my words or hashtag will never be enough for everyone. I can’t stand seeing innocent people get hurt.
‘That is what makes me sick. I wish I could alter the world. However, a post will not. ‘Love, Selena,’ the star concluded.
