Memorial Day weekend is here, and while most people don’t celebrate it, motorsport enthusiasts cherish it even more.
The weekend not only sees the yearly Indianapolis 500, but it also marks the arrival of the world’s top drivers and the biggest stars in Hollywood in Monte Carlo for the 95th edition of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Due to its close proximity to Cannes, a number of the glitzy film festival attendees make the short trip up the coast to attend the race’s celebrations, which invariably result in an abundance of spectacular costumes.
But this year, celebrity fits aren’t the main attraction. A developing trend in Formula One in recent years has been the attention that the drivers are receiving in the fashion department.
Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time F1 World Champion and driver for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, has been leading the effort. He is renowned for turning heads at paddocks across the world by wearing outrageous outfits from brands like Rick Owens, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Dior, and Louis Vuitton.
Hamilton, who works with stylist Eric McNeal, arrived at the beachside paddock for media day on Thursday wearing a baby-blue couture Dior knit by Kim Jones that had the deepest V-neck I’ve ever seen.
He accessorized it with white Cartier Panthère De Cartier sunglasses, linen slacks, electric-blue sneakers, and jewelry by Marie Lichtenberg and Fabergé (for all the details, follow @hamazinglew on Instagram).
With the exception of their H. Moser & Cie timepieces, drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly of Alpine F1 Racing arrived at the race in Berluti head-to-toe, while Daniel Ricciardo opted to wear his own brand, Enchanté, for the event. And that was just on Thursday.
