A week break between Formula 1 races saw Valtteri Bottas swap four wheels for two wheels.
The driver for the Stake Formula One team, Kick Sauber, disclosed that he took part in the massive 108-mile Unbound Gravel race held in Emporia, Kansas, this past weekend.
The 34-year-old placed second in his age group of males between the ages of 30 and 39, finishing 33rd out of almost 1,400 riders.
He posted a picture of himself holding up his finisher medal on social media on Sunday, along with the statement, “Finally got to take part in this big event.”
He continued, “Had a great time racing bikes on gravel for 174 km and finished second in men 30-39.”
Additionally, Bottas acknowledged his partner, Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell.
He wrote, “Much respect for Tiffany Cromwell for finishing the grueling 200-mile course.”
The former Mercedes ace also posted his data on Strava, noting that he burned 4,600 calories and finished the 5,000-foot route in 5 hours and 26 minutes.
Later this week, the Finnish competitor will return to the racetrack for the Canadian Grand Prix among the other 19 drivers competing in Formula One.
Despite failing to score a point this season, Bottas has had a rather quiet beginning to the campaign. Nevertheless, he has been occupied in his spare time.
Lewis Hamilton, his former teammate, has also been enjoying his time off the racetrack. Most recently, he made a cameo on the well-liked internet series Hot Ones.
The seven-time world champion claimed in the interview that other drivers also urinate during races, but he did it on one occasion.
To the best of my knowledge, quite a few drivers urinate in their vehicles. I used to drink a lot. He added in the episode, which aired earlier this week, “I just can’t bring myself to pee myself, so I go as many times as I can right up until the last minute before I get in the car.”
“I once had.” Oh my goodness, that was two or three years ago, and it was in Singapore. When the safety car emerged, I was just behind it and exclaimed, “I’m dying.” It’s incredibly, terribly uncomfortable when your bladder is full from the g-force you’re hauling, he admitted.
You simply can’t concentrate on your work, so I recall having to really push yourself to go. It’s quite challenging. Fortunately, I’ve only had to do that once.
